Rajendranagar: With a view to equip the poor students of slums with modern education, a human rights activist and an AAP contested MLA from Rajendranagar Sadiq Bin Salam has set up a free computer training institute at Hassan Nagar under Rajendranagar Constituency.

The institute started in March with the name and motto, "We Are One," with a few students from a poor neighbourhood, but soon the institute grabbed the attention of many other enthusiastic students who until then hadn't got the opportunity to avail the same.

"The institute has started with a few students in the first month, but surprisingly, the number started to increase day by day. The present strength of the institute is 50, including boys and girls. It started with a single digit, but reached to double digit within two months. Presently, the students are being imparted with basic computer courses, such as MS Office, Power Point, and Excel, besides some elementary programming like Java and C++ to catch up," said Sadiq Bin Salam.

"According to an old saying, 'Education is the most precious gift the parents could offer to their children,' we too feel it is important to focus and work toward this end, since bringing the poor children, especially the minority community is the need of the hour," he added.

The training is totally free and all the expenditure incurred to run the centre is being borne by Sadiq Bin Salam alone. The organizer roped in a few trained instructors to teach the students and most of them seeking advanced courses here belong to backward classes.

"Few good trainers were hired to impart training to the students and adequate number of computers were also arranged to cater the need of the little learners in the institute. The response is quite encouraging and the idea we employ to impart free advanced training to poor students is receiving applauds from every corner," he said.
