CII vows to plant 30 lakh saplings in Telangana State

Hyderabad: Partnering with the Government of Telangana State in its 'Telanganaku Haritha Haram' campaign since 2016, the CII with the support of all the stakeholders would facilitate planting of about 30 lakh saplings in the State.

Encouraged by the success of earlier editions, the CII has organised the 2019 campaign at CII- Godrej GBC and at ITC Limited Paperboards & Specialty Papers Di Unit Bollarum on Thursday. Similar campaign would be carried out by CII members and other stakeholders.

Speaking on the occasion, CII (Telangana State Council) chairman D Raju said that fostering and promoting environmental sustainability was one of the key themes of CII. Under its theme of environment sustainability, through its various centres of excellence, CII would be committed to the areas of promoting clean air and electric vehicles, environment conservation and forest protection, and reducing CO2 emissions through green practices and businesses.

Divisional Chief Executive, ITC Ltd-PSPD, Sanjay Singh said that ITC was pleased to join hands with CII in taking forward its sustainability agenda. Going the green way not only addresses ecological issues and concerns but also makes good business sense, he added. The 'Telanganaku Haritha Haram' campaign was an excellent initiative taken up by the State government and would go a long way in increasing the green cover and biodiversity in the State, said Sanjay Singh.

CII (Green Landscape Committee) chairman Anil Kumar V Epur said that the CII was honoured to collaborate with the Government of Telangana in its excellent and path-breaking 'Telanganaku Haritha Haram' campaign. Likewise, the CII would continue to work closely with the stakeholders in facilitating build a greener and healthier State. This year, CII aspires to facilitate planting of about 8 lakh saplings, he informed

IGBC (Hyderabad Chapter) Chairman Shekar Reddy, said that the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) through its holistic green building rating systems encourages projects to incorporate practices and approaches which would promote bio-diversity, native species, vertical gardening, etc., IGBC has launched an exclusive Green Landscape Rating System to facilitate creation of comfortable and environmentally friendly landscape for people, he added.
