Citizen Colony witnesses phenomenal growth

Old Alwal: Connecting roads to Kompally has come as a boon for Citizen Colony in Old Alwal. The colony that came up in 1995 has witnessed phenomenal growth in very short period and today has 438 houses.

Once considered a remote place, the colony is now abuzz with life and has all kind of facilities. B Ramu, a resident of Citizen Colony president said, "We are planning cameras to be set up and also protect the open plots. In 1995, the colony had mud roads; we have come a long way."

"There have been many changes in the past few years from the size and price of houses, quality of the roads, number of trees. Twenty-six years ago, the price for a square yard was Rs 300 nowit is Rs 30,000 per square yard," K Thagi, a resident of the colony said.

The recent opening of the road connecting to Kompallyhas lead to speedy construction of flats.K Aparna, a resident, said "There was no water problem 10 years ago but with many buildings coming up in the Alwal, water table has gone down."

"With development and crop up other problems. Parking is a bigissue,"said Ujwal S, another resident of the colony. R Sampath, a resident, said "The roads are narrow and do not have enough space to park cars. Most of the residents park their cars in an empty plots.

That is no solution." S Ganpath, a shopkeeper, said "In the past few months road widening has been taken up with the extra space for temple. Earlier the area was unknown but now with new shops and direct connection to the main road leading to Kompally, the colony has come into the limelight."
