Citizens build road on their own

Hafeezpet: Fed up with the apathetic attitude of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the residents of Sharada Nagar Colony, Hafeezpet took it upon themselves and contributed money to build a road.

"For the past many months we have been facing difficulties to use the road. As the road was in very bad condition the locals couldn't use the road. Our colony has 200 families and everyone uses the same road," said Ravi Kiran, one of the residents of Sharada Nagar Colony.

Kiran further added, "Laying a tar road would be costly, so we decided to fill the road with mud." In the meantime, the residents have been asked to use the alternate road nearby until the work is completed.

Around 30 people and two local contractors were involved in this mission and an amount of Rs 2 lakh was collected for the development of the road. Each resident contributed according to their capacity.

"With the help of two JCBs, tractor dozer, and a road roller we are leveling the road. The works began on last Sunday. It would take a day or two to complete the works. We are working for close to 12 hours," the volunteers said.
