Citizens wasting 30 pc of water supplied, deplores HMWSSB

Chandrayangutta: Besides underscoring the need for cleaner city, the Slum Level Federation meeting which was conducted in Bandlaguda (near Barkas) on Wednesday, threw emphasis on water conservation from all sections of the society. The programme was held in coordination with GHMC and NGO Save Foundation.

The meeting was chaired by Zonal Commissioner (Charminar) B Srinivas Reddy. The participants were asked to take active part in the ongoing drive of 'Saaf Hyderabad – Shaandaar Hyderabad'. Women shared their grievances and concerns with the officials. The Zonal Commissioner called upon the residents to not to throw garbage in water bodies, nalas and on the road and to handover it directly to the garbage collection vehicles. He also asked them to conserve water and to shun the habit of wasting water.

The Deputy Commissioner (Chandrayangutta), P Mohan Reddy stressed the need for keeping not only their houses clean but to ensure that lanes and the entire locality remained clean. He asked them to hand over garbage to the specially designated autos.

The representative of local corporator, Hafiz Patel, asked the participants to avoid wastage of water and to construct rain water harvesting pit in their surroundings to recharge the ground water levels.

The programme was attended by HMWSSB (Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board), General Manager, (Engineering), P Nagender Kumar who made the residents aware that State government was supplying enough water. However, there was a need of optimum utilisation, as 30 percent of the water was being wasted. Hence it was high time that the denizens act on this matter and conserve water so that the important natural resource is utilised in best possible way.

The programme was attended by N Venu Gopal Deputy, Project Officer, (Urban Community Development), HMWSSB's Manohar Yadaiah, Save Foundation CEO, M Krishna, Health Officer, Jyothi, Laxman, Jangaiah, Khader, Ward members, local leaders and women representing different organisations.
