City girl takes to unique art of Psaligraphy

Pursuing engineering degree and turning her path towards art is something that makes her happy and satisfied. Neetu Sam, an artist who has never gave up on art as a passion is certainly a woman with dreams and thoughts that made her a person she is today.

Psaligraphy, an art that is made out of paper cuts is unique on its own. Starting to post her work on Instagram, the next gen artist has also been a trainer for IELTS.

Sharing about her art work, Neetu says, "My work is called psaligraphy, it is removing pieces of paper strips that are sketched. The image you have sketched is removed and given a shape. It has been four years I am into this work and most recently, I have gone public to boost my confidence that I can do and handle work on my own."

Art which was her passion since her childhood never really left her, "I never left art, I was always into the co-curricular activities right from my school days where I choose this as part of me. I never got professional training in this art as I pursued engineeringto fulfil my parent's wish. But I also requested them to give me space for my art. I wanted to do that experiment while being financially independent and so I worked for a while and started with the learning process to establish myself as an artist."

English has also been the second interest of this Psaligraphy artist, "As I like arts,I always found English language interesting, so I used to attend poetry clubs. This was one thing that was close to me, so I gave it a shot and got certified as an trainer for English and adult language trainer by the British council. Each month I train about 40 studentsfor IELTS, GMAT and TOEFL."

The artist who finds something creative and challenging in every art work is certainly up to something really fascinating, "Sketching and doddle work was there with me since a long time. I wanted to do something that is challenging.

This art form was something tricky, you just pick up an art piece and cut it, Origami is all about cutting into shapes, but this art needs surgical scalpel which is a surgical knife which has different types of shapes which gives the exact picture that you have sketched.

So, this was something that was challenging for me. Once I started off it was a big downfall for me as I could not find the right paper and it took quite a time for getting little grip. Then I built in a lot of interest on it as this started helping me in being very patient with my work."

"Once you are done with an art piece, you can feel the stress-levels dropping that gives you the Yay! Wala feeling, "she adds. About going public, she says, "I have been doing this stuff offline, before that I started as a photographeron Instagram.

I am a solo traveller and I keep experimenting about how women can travel alone, and I am planning to come up with a blog for that. When it comes to women travelling, it is not that easy as men. It has been a year-and-a-half that I have been working on it and that is how I started my Insta page.

When I started cutting few papers, I put them on Instagram, my friends have started placing orders for me, eventually when the orders started cropping in decently, then I decided to go ahead. This online platform came in as a blessing for me and I got an opportunity to exhibit my works at the State Art Gallery."

Being an artist has made Neetu to be even more creative. "Women travelling solois empowering oneself and knowing about yourself. Istarted moving to places and then I went ahead and started to travel the untouched locations as well, now I have done a lot of research on it and I want to come up with something that helps women know about what to carry, cut down, how to choose a place, how to interact with people.

I am also coming up with an itinerary on budget travel for women." Neetu was never interested in corporate life, and never wanted to really take stress on subjects she was not interested, instead she showed her interest in teaching students.

The artist who is into doodling is also into many other art works that she did not display. "I have few works which are made out of bamboo sticks. On ceramics I come up with the message doodles which I am going to put up soon. So, whatever I do is handmade and eco-friendly. I will be coming up with a website where I will sell them as a product and alsobe hosting workshops in the coming months in paper cut works."
