Colours of expressions

Art is a mixture of emotions that are expressed through strokes, and every artist has a story behind their work. And to share their stories through the art – Pratibha Dhal and Sangeeta Dhar are showcasing their artworks at an exhibition titled 'Vibrancy' at Alliance Française. The art expo is on until April 26.

An art teacher at Hyderabad Public School, Pratibha has been imparting art skills to students for 18 years. She is greatly inspired by nature, the vibrant colours, pleasing textures and geometrical patterns.

"I was always passionate about art and so I decided to quit my studies in science and followed my passion and became a professional. Chandigarh is an art hub and so I happened to meet a lot of them while studying there and I learnt a lot from them."

About her artworks, she said, "It is just not a portrait it is the feel, the way you apply colour, your mood and surrounding all these make an impact on your work. From realistic to abstract it is really different; it really needs the courage to do such bold strokes. It took a long time for me to learn the abstract and now I am in the semi-abstract artworks."

Showcasing different phases in her artwork the artist says, "The acrylic paints that are used are very vibrant than oil paints and so my works that show different phases of life and emotions get more attractive when I use acrylic colours. Playing with the background and giving effect to the portrait I feel great when I complete my works."

Sangeetha, who had an inclination towards arts since childhood says, "My paintings depict relationships and are abstract. I have shown the nature and the peace that we get out of it. My artworks mainly focus on relationships, nature, and women."

Talking a little in detail about her paintings she said, "I have used my imagination and like the portrait of Meera, who is known by everyone. I have given a background effect to this portrait that describes her simple like which I have done it with my finger.

The acrylic pouring is the colourful mixture and blends of colours which I do it pouring colour on the sheet and then blowing of the colours which give an effect to the painting,"

Describing her sand painting she said, "These art works took a while for me to complete it. I have made shapes on the portrait and then put sand on then and painted the area that had sand. It took me time to get it into a perfect art piece.

Once I started working on this in a complete portrait then I started doing this on the sketches and filled a little area of it with sand painting." The two artists are based from Hyderabad and they have also conducted a two-day workshop for art enthusiasts and budding artists.
