Congress leader booked in cheating case

Banjara Hills: The Banjara Hills Police registered a cheating case against a Congress party leader named Gajjela Kantham who lured a person and cheated him to the tune of Rs 15 lakh in the name of providing contracts for supplying saplings under Haritha Haram initiative.

According to police, K Vijay Kumar, a resident of Attapur, a plant supplier lodged a complaint stating that once he told his friend Gopi Krishna that he wantsedto take his business to higher level, then Gopi Krishna introduced a person by name G Venkateshwarlu and Congress leader Gajjela Kantham, saying they could help in the business development.

Kantham and Venkateshwarlu assured the complainant that they would provide saplings supply contracts and took Rs 15 lakh as advance payment in 2017 at a popular hotel in Banjara hills. Kantham in turn handed over a check for Rs 15 lakh to Vijay Kumar.

Later, many days passed away, but he couldn't get his contract as assured by Kantham and Venkateshwarlu. When Vijay demanded refund of his amount, both of them arranged fake phone calls by strangers to Vijay, pretending as government officials and assuring him he would soon get a plant supply contract. Believing this, the complainant waited for a few more days.

Later, when he felt suspicious and found that he had been cheated, and also as the cheque given by the duo bounced, he lodged a complaint with the police. Police registered a case under Sections 406, 420, 506 of IPC, and took up investigation.
