Cycle rally to be held on World Heart Day

Hyderabad: The CSI (Cardiology Society of India) is organising a cycle rally on the World Heart Day on September 29 to increase public awareness. It also is planning road signs to emphasise life style changes that can decrease heart attacks. It imparts CPR training so that bystanders can save lives of people who suffer from a cardiac arrest.

This year's theme is to be a heart hero and to promise our dear ones that "We will protect our and everybody else's heart by adopting these life saving life style changes and encouraging others to do the same."

Heart attacks are the No.1 killer of mankind. Heart attacks and brain strokes are called cardio-vascular disease (CVD) and this deadly disease can be prevented so easily by properly educating people about life style changes, the World Heart Federation celebrates World Heart Day every September 29 to increase public awareness and to influence policy makers.

Almost 50% of Indians have metabolic syndrome, which is the most important cause of heart attacks in India. This is caused by increased intake of polished cereals and sugars and lack of exercise. It causes pre-diabetes, Decreased Good (HDL-C) Cholestrol, increased triglycerides in blood, mildly increased BP and central obesity.
