Devnar students enjoy joyride on Metro

Hyderabad: For the students of Devnar School for the Blind it was an experience to savour. Led by Naman and Harshavar who are familiar travelling on the metro guided the rest of the students to metro facilities. This event was organised with the aim to increase public awareness, to make them understand and accept people with disability and to celebrate their achievements and contributions.

L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited (L&TMRHL) on Tuesday observed with pride the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD). The students enjoyed a joy ride in Hyderabad Metro Rail from Begumpet to Nagole and back.

The students were familiarised with on boarding and deboarding process in the station from street level to concourse, en route ticketing counter to the platform and then to the train. Hyderabad Metro Rail design is disability friendly and the blind students used the tactile flooring to trace their path successfully. Hyderabad Metro Rail staff escorted them to their destinations all through the journey as per their training and mandatory requirements.

Payal Kapoor, Institutional Sales Manager, Mercquri Medica, who specialises in medical emergencies and preparedness, a specially abled blind person, audited herself the facilities available at Begumpet and Nagole metro stations for blind people and appreciated the efforts of Hyderabad Metro for being disable friendly.

KVB Reddy, MD & CEO, L&TMRHL, during his interaction with the students stated that Hyderabad Metro Rail is disabled-friendly and measures are in place to address and help people with disabilities who need assistance and guidance to travel by Hyderabad Metro. He spoke to the students at length and encouraged them to travel by Hyderabad Metro.
