Diverse talent to the fore at Music Day fete
World Music Day first took place in 1982 in Paris, France. This is an annual music celebration that takes place all over the world. Amateur and professional musicians are encouraged to perform, under the slogan "Faites de la musique" ("Make music"). The festival has become an international phenomenon, celebrated on the same day in 700 cities in 120 countries.
Our Sacred Space has been organising World music Day for the past six years in collaboration with Alliance Française the event happened in both Secunderabad and Dharur Centre.
They had a fantastic line up for artists performing in Carnatic Vocals, Keyboard, Violin, Tabla, Guitar, Unplugged performance by The Band Paristhithi and All women Qawwali performance by Shaheen Women's Resource and Welfare Association, an NGO in the heart of Old City, Hyderabad, has been working for the rights of girls and women since 2002.
Shaheen has successfully adopted Qawwali to break the stereotype of Qawwali being only men, and secondly, to create awareness in the community through Qawwalis on women's rights. The Qawwali is performed by the dedicated interventionists of the organisation are unique, with their focus on gender issues.
