Donkeys married off for copious rains

Secunderabad: The members of Dakkali community believe that marriage of donkeys before their temple would bring copious rains.

On Thursday, they adorned two donkeys, one as a bride and another as bridegroom and took them in a procession to a temple in the Harijan Basti in Bowenpally. Later, a marriage ceremony was conducted in traditional style. Members of their community and people from nearby colonies witnessed the strange ritual.

A community member said that they perform the ceremony whenever there was dry spell and it was always followed by good rains. He said that the shortfall in rains has affected farmers and hoped the ritual would bring copious rains.
