Drainage works finally begin in Maruti Nagar

Maruti Nagar: After years of complaining about the drainage issue here, the GHMC has now swung into action to do the drainage works. The delay in the works has now caused a lot of problems to the residents and the nearby shopkeepers.

Speaking to The Hans India on the issue, M Prema, a resident, said, "We have been staying in this area since 8 years. There is a manhole just beside the road of my apartment. The drainage has not been cleaned for many years. We have been complaining about it to the officials concerned many times, but no action was taken. Now, after such a long time, the cleaning of drainage has begun. But, the road has become a mess for us to travel.

It has also put the traffic out of gear in the area." S Neelam, a shop owner, said, "Yesterday, around 5.30 pm, the workers asked us to close the shop as soon as possible, as they had to dig the road for putting another pipe. It is going to cause a lot of inconvenience until the work is completed."

Speaking to The Hans India, A Chandraiah, a worker, said, "It is going to take around 8 to 10 days to fit the pipe and cover it with mud. We asked the shopkeepers to close their shops as it not only becomes difficult for them to travel back and forth, but also for not to cause any inconvenience to us. Also, it is going to be difficult for these shopkeepers to work, as there will be an unbearable smell because of the works."
