Dry Manjeera causes severe water scarcity

Narayankhed: River Manjeera has dried up and the residents of Narayankhed are suffering due to severe water scarcity. The Narayankhed division in Sangareddy district is on the borderline of Karnataka and Maharashtra.

The Manjeera river is a tributary of the Godavari River which flows through Maharashtra and Karnataka. It travels for a stretch of 46 km in old Manur and 96 km in old Medak districts from Gowdagaav village at Nagallidha mandal in Telangana.

Singuru project dam was constructed on this river at Pulkal mandal in Sangareddy district in 1998 with a capacity of 30 TMCft which can be used for irrigating 40,000 acres and can produce 15 mw electricity.

Recently, the river dried up as the water coming from Karnataka and Maharashtra is reduced to a trickle. Water level in the project has reached dead storage level after the release of 17 tmcft of water last year. It has been causing a lot of drinking water troubles since the beginning of summer.
