Effigy of Swami Chinmaya burnt

Himayathnagar: Representatives of National Federation of Women set fire to an effigy of former Union Minister Swami Chinmayanand at Himayat Nagar Y Junction to register their protest.

National Federation of Women on Thursday condemned the attempt to implicate the rape victim in the case involving former Union Minister Swami Chinmayanand as an offender. It criticised the police of Uttar Pradesh for taking the victim into custody based on false allegations.

The protestors alleged that the UP government had totally failed to check sexual assaults and violence on women. Jyothi, working president of the federation, said women would teach a fitting lesson to BJP for encouraging 'Swamis' and 'Yogis' and to ensure that such assaults against women do not recur.
