Election Commission supports RO over nomination rejection
Vikarabad: The district leaders ofCongress party complained to the State Election Commission for rejecting party's ZPTC candidate. District party president and Tandur MLA Rohith Reddy, former minister Prasad Kumar, ZPTC candidate Sunitha Sampath, leaders P Narsimlu, A Srinivas and others lodged a complaint to State Election Commissioner Nagireddy, here on Tuesday.
Responding to the complaint, the commissioner assured them to look into the matter after obtaining details from the respective collector. Later, speaking to the media, MLA Rohit Reddy said, the returning officer unilaterally rejected nomination of Sunita Sampath, who is the party's nominee of ZP chairperson. The congress leaders said they would continue the legal battle until they get justice.
The district collector conducted an inquiry and upon hearing from both Congress and TRS, he supported the decision taken by the returning officer. The rejection of nomination is said to be a big blow to the Congress party. Later, speaking to The Hans India, Sunitha said that she had three children even before 1995. "My opponents resorted to create fake birth certificates," she alleged. She said that she would approach High Court with all evidences.
