Ensure Rotavirus Vaccine to all infants: Congress

Shalibanda: Senior Congress leader and State Rajiv Seva Samithi president, K Venkatesh has called upon the parents of newborn and toddlers to ensure that they get Rotavirus Vaccine (RV) by availing the provision at State-run hospitals.

The Congress leader took part in the general vaccination programme being conducted at Aliabad government primary health care unit, where medical officer Dr P Annapurna and hospital staff were administering the RV. Speaking on the occasion, Venkatesh said that 40 percent of the watery diarrhea amongst the children was caused due to this virus.

He described this to be one of the reasons for increased number of cases in the hospitals and in some cases could prove risky and may also lead to death. "The parents must ensure that the children below the age of 1 year get this Rota vaccine to avert the tribulation," he noted. Hospital's medical officer, Dr P Annapurna explained that the newborns of 6, 10 and 14 weeks should be administered with proper dosage.

She further said that in Telangana this vaccine was made available to serve this particular purpose. She also called upon parents to ensure that children get all the scheduled vaccines in the correct age. The programme was attended by staff including Nirmala, Sunitha, Vanitha, Roja and others.
