Explore new taxes, GHMC told

Hyderabad: Telangana State Finance Commission Chairman G Rajesh Goud met GHMC Mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan, Commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar and other officials at the GHMC office on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajesh Goud instructed the officials to increase the income sources of the civic body by promptly resolving the development issues and arranging basic amenities in the city.

He further added, "Tax should be included in hotel bills, petrol and vehicles as Greater Hyderabad City development fund to increase the income of GHMC. Municipal corporations in other areas are collecting tax in the name of city sanitation which can be introduced. Study of various income sources of other municipal corporations will be much helpful."

Lokesh Kumar said, "Tax was increased in 2002 for residential buildings and in 2007 for non-residential buildings in Hyderabad. There is no increase in tax from then onwards."

He further explained the devolutions under the 14th Finance Commission and revenue which would accrue from central and state governments. Additional Commissioner Jayaraj, Chief Engineer Sridhar, Chief financial advisor Venkateswar Reddy and others were present.
