Flouting of rules by pharmacists on rise

Rajendranagar: The ongoing surprise inspections by drug inspectors of Rajendranagar, Serilingampalli, Saroornagar, Hayathnagar and Vikarabad under Rangareddy district has revealed that some pharmacists were running their business by flouting rules like sale of medicines over the counter, without presence of pharmacist, prescription and sale bill.

In last month alone, the drug inspectors carried raids in areas from Chandrayangutta to Shamshabad, after complaints of teenagers abusing banned substance and addictives were received from Sulaiman nagar and Hassannagar areas under Rangareddy district.

Several notices served on chemists

Earlier this month, the DCA officials carried out surprise inspection on October 6 in areas such as Sulaiman Nagar, Shastripuram, Chintalmet and Mailardevpalli and found violations. The authorities have served notices to 5 of the errant pharmacists seeking their explanation.

Later, during inspections of medical shops carried out on October 14 in areas like Hassan Nagar, Indra Nagar, Mahmood Nagar, Chintalmet and MM Pahadi, similar kind of violations were found.

Under the supervision of Anjum Abida, Assistant Director, Rangareddy District, the team of drug inspectors carried out raids and issued almost 15 notices to the errant owners and asked for the clarification. The drug inspectors extended their checks to Shamshabad on October 19 and observed similar nature of violations.

Good Dispensing Practice

Speaking to The Hans India, Drug Inspector Rajendranagar Zone Raju Laxmalla said, "Some of the good practices that owners must adopted selling the drugs at MRP, selling the drugs with prescription, Issue of sale bill to customers, checking expiry of drugs, maintaining of purchase and sale records and maintaining of schedule H1 drug register.

So far, we have served notices to 35 shop owners for committing violations and seven days of time have been given to submit their explanation. We will take necessary action if the errant owners fail to furnish explanation," he clarified.
