GHMC begins razing risky structures in Rajendranagar circle

Rajendranagar : GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) Town Planning wing has pulled down at least 5 dilapidated structures at Hyderguda and Alwal areas under Rajendranagar circle as part of its monsoon action plan on vulnerable buildings posing high risk for the lives of their inmates and even citizens during the rainy season.

According to GHMC officials, during a drive taken up against the dilapidated structures on Friday, they demolished four dilapidated buildings bearing H.Nos.3-1-15, 3-1-39 and 3-1-9 at Hyderguda and one structure at Budvel bearing H.No.2-1-153 that were identified as a threat to lives of the inhabitants and the citizens equally.

The civic body has identified nearly 285 structures in under its limits this year and moved on according to its action plan by pulling at least 11 ramshackle structures from early June. The action plan was unveiled without delay with the approaching of monsoon and the officials start identifying most dangerous structures in each circle of GHMC."The demolition of rundown structures will continue till all the identified buildings are demolished or repaired by the occupants. For this, notices are being issued to the owners having possession of the structures," said officials.

The Town Planning officials were tasked with counselling of owners in few cases wherein the occupants are refusing to vacate the dilapidated structures as they may turn into mishap if not been evacuate timely, added the official.

There are 765 old and dilapidated buildings in and around the city under GHMC limits that include 484 structures which were identified last year. Of them, over 400 such structures were already demolished.

The corporation has identified dilapidated structures on the basis of opinion on structural safety from engineering department and took up the demolition drive of those building that are posing high risk on priority.

As per the official estimates, some 382 such structures were demolished since January this year as a part of action plan. GHMC commissioner Dana Kishore, during a recent review meeting, instructed the officials to act swiftly against illegal constructions, encroachment of lakes and nalas in and around the city.
