GHMC holds drive to clear garbage pile-up

Rajendranagar: GHMC Rajendranagar has swung into action to remove the piled-up garbage and debris scattered at various locations under Hassan Nagar and Suleman Nagar areas, only after drawing its attention to the stinking issue.

Under the supervision of Assistant Medical Officer of Health (AMOH) G Putta Padma, the cleaning of piled-up trash was taken up by employing GHMC vehicles. GHMC subordinate staff, including sanitation supervisor Srikanth, sanitary jawan Sudarshan, sanitary field assistants Jagan and Mahender were also accompanied with the senior officer and made arrangements to lift the garbage and administer bleaching powder at places where the dustbins were overloaded with the trash.

The Hans India report, 'GHMC litter-free drive goes haywire' published on May 30, raised the issue of pilling up of garbage at various locations at Hassan Nagar and Suleman Nagar and highlighted the concerns of the local residents.

On June 1, the civic official and the subordinate sanitary staff were seen busy in removing the trash that was not been cleared for many days. At one point, the AMOH G Putta Padma was seen scolding the sanitary field assistant concerned for his laxity on his part in cleaning the pilled garbage on daily basis. She asked the sanitary staff and the concern SFAs to see that no such problem would arise in the future.

"Instructions were given to AE transport to take up garbage collection from all the locations where trash has been piling on daily basis. Presently, we have cleaned up almost all the places where the garbage was piled up by arranging tippers.

We are also arranging bob cut machine to remove the debris wherever it scattered around. We will take steps to maintain regular garbage collection from this area and will see no issue for the residents in future due to piling up of trash," said the AMOH.

"It would be nice if the GHMC officials showed the same vigour in holding such sanitation drives at least once in a week in the areas where the piling up of garbage is common. Why the people will complain if the sanitation works go on smoothly and on daily basis.

At the same time, the residents also should behave as responsible citizens while disposing off the trash. Throwing garbage disorderly would ultimately turn the area into dirty ambience and cause stink, besides leading to environmental damage," said Mohammed Jahingir, an Area Sabha Member of Hassan Nagar.
