GHMC on a demolition spree

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has gone on an overdrive and is upping the ante with regard to the demolition of the dilapidated structures.

On Tuesday alone, the civic body demolished 11 structures in Charminar Zone and seized one structure in Kukatpally Circle. A special drive for the demolition of dilapidated structures has been taken up from June 11 and so far, 162 dilapidated structures have been demolished, 26 structures were seized and 12 were repaired.

In all, 331 dilapidated structures have been identified afresh in addition to the remaining 435 structures were carried forward from last year, totaling 766 dilapidated structures.

Out of the total 766 dilapidated structures, so far 191 structures have been demolished and 133 structures were repaired or evicted informed an official. The demolition drive will be continued till all the dilapidated structures are demolished or repaired by the occupants, a senior official said.
