GHMC plastic collection drive makes rapid progress

Hyderabad: As part of 'Saaf Hyderabad, Shandaar Hyderabad' program, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) swung into action to eliminate plastic waste in the city. All the open spaces, especially nalas and lakes are being cleaned by GHMC workmen and tonnes of plastic are being collected.

• Over 100 tonnes of plastic waste collection targeted by June 5

• But corporation already crossed 100 tonnes of plastic waste

• 30 tonnes of plastic waste collected from west zone alone

• GHMC also plans to build recycle products from plastic waste

"We are gearing up for a massive plastic collection drive by June 5. We are collecting plastics at every corner of the city," says Hari Chandana, the zonal commissioner for west zone. The zonal commissioner also said that they want to collect more than 100 tonnes of plastic waste in the city by June 5.

Special collection drive is being conducted every day where there is a high-level of plastic waste piled up such as nalas and lakes. The corporation is planning to make recycled products from the collected plastic waste, including tree guards and dustbins.

Till now, 30 tonnes of plastic waste has been collected in the West zone, and also from every zone 30 tonnes of plastic has been collected. The GHMC has already crossed 100 tonnes of plastic waste and it is planning to collect more plastic waste. It's our duty to take the initiative to clean our city and make it plastic-free, she added.
