GHMC special drive to focus on monsoon-related urgencies

Hyderabad: Dana Kishore, the GHMC Commissioner, emphasised on the need for better coordination among various departments during monsoon-related emergencies. MD of Hyderabad Metro Rail NVS Reddy, Hyderabad Joint Collector G Ravi, Traffic Additional DCPs Chouhan and Vijay Kumar, Vigilance and Enforcement Director Vishwajit Kampati and GHMC higher officials attended the meeting which took several key decisions.

• Ban on all road cutting from May 31

• Completion of road works by May 31

• Road repairs, restoration by June 5

• Manhole constructions on a war-footing basis

In view of the approaching rainy season, the meeting decided to ban all road cutting from May 31 and complete all the pending road works before May 31. Road repair and restoration works should be completed before June 5. Manhole constructions, which are taken up in the city, need to be completed on a war-footing basis and the meeting decided to give proper response to the allegations that they are of no use. The meeting decided to appoint a nodal officer from each department to face monsoon-related emergencies.

Every department should provide details about their disaster management teams to GHMC vigilance, enforcement, disaster management department. Identification of alternative routes in case of tree fall, shifting of people from low-lying areas in case of heavy rains, removal of 60 hoardings along the Metro Rail lines, removal of garbage and construction debris from the roads adjoining Metro rail lines, taking measures for land acquisition for constructing railway under-bridge at Malakpet and revival of traffic signals at various junctions were among the decisions taken at the meeting.

In the context of fire accident in a coaching institute in Surat, the meeting decided to hold inspection of fire safety measures at various educational institutes and coaching centres in the city.

GHMC Additional Commissioners Hari Chandana, Shruthi Ozha, Krishna, chief engineers Suresh, Ziauddin and Sridhar, Jalamandali Directors Krishna, Suryanarayana, Praveen Kumar and Ravi, SPDCL Director Srinivas Reddy, and officials of various department and others also participated in the meeting.
