GHMC steps up efforts to combat water-borne diseases

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is to conduct a blanket operation to combat vector and water-borne diseases in the city, and to conduct about 500 health camps in GHMC limits, said GHMC Commissioner Dana Kishore.

In a review meeting with the officials of the health wing on the rise of Dengue and Malaria diseases with onset of monsoon, the commissioner instructed the officials to conduct health camps in about 500 vulnerable areas and to take anti-larva and fogging operations simultaneously. He also told to hold awareness campaigns at schools and bastis, so that a blanket operation is conducted effectively to combat and control diseases.

The commissioner further asked about the availability of medicines and required material at their disposal. He said to take up awareness campaign through TV scrolls, pamphlets, door stickers, FaceBook, Twitter etc, and to involve local corporators in awareness campaign programmes, he said.

The District Medical and Health officers of Hyderabad, Medchal and Ranga Reddy districts apprised Commissioner Dana Kishore about the numbers of cases reported of suspect and confirmed cases of Dengue, Malaria, Swine flu etc., in their areas and their plan of action to control the diseases.

The commissioner asked to identify vulnerable areas, constitute with full- fledged team comprising of medical officer and assistant entomologist and to chart their job for effective implementation of the programme. He also instructed to conduct of door-to-door survey on reported fever cases by collecting blood samples.

The commissioner instructed the officials to obtain the reports of Dengue and Malaria cases on daily basis from the Government and Private hospitals to monitor the situation and to take preventive steps to control the spread of diseases.

District Medical and Health officers of Medchal, Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad and Assistant Medical and Health officers, Chief Entomologist and other senior officials of health wing attended the meeting.
