GHMC top brass lauded for innovative efforts

Hyderabad: Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) Director and Joint Secretary V K Jindal appreciated the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for its innovative efforts in sanitation, recycling of construction and demolition (C&D) waste, in making the Hyderabad city a clean and healthy city.

GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan informed the SBM officials about sanitation, levelling of manholes and re-cycling of C&D waste. On Friday, while presenting a presentation on the GHMC activities, GHMC Commissioner M Dana Kishore appraised the officials how the GHMC making its efforts in keeping the city clean and said while monitoring with the integration the cameras of police Department, the GHMC would able to keep the city clean from time to time.

Regarding disposal of C&D waste, the GHMC is collecting fee for the transportation of C&D material of demolished building while giving permission for construction of new building. All the transportation vehicles and garbage lifting vehicles are equipped with GPS for better management.

Bio-metric of attendance of all sanitation workers and regular medical check-up for them. All the public toilets and community toilets are monitored daily and around Rs 80 lakh were collected by way of fines on the offenders for throwing garbage on roads, letting out water on roads and spitting, he added.

The Commissioner further said awareness campaign meetings were conducted on segregation of dry and waste with involvement of SHGs/ NGOs/public representatives. The motto of the GHMC is bin free, dust free and litter free by collecting the garbage at source. The director suggested the waste should be segregated at source and no waste is left unprocessed.

The method of sending SMS in the localities so the citizens are ready to hand over the garbage in the colonies. An integrated data on city profile can be taken up for better management of works. All this would be possible only with the participation of citizens he added. GHMC officials and HMW&SSB officials were present in the meeting.
