Graveyards in North Zone to be upgraded
Secunderabad: The long pending up gradation of graveyards in the North Zone would begin soon. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) would take up the work. On the anvil is also to develop a few as model graveyards.
Padmalatha, Executive Engineer, GHMC, North Zone said, "In the phase I, three graveyards, Vinayak Nagar graveyard- Domalguda, Hindu Graveyard-Amberpet (Mohini Cheruvu), Hindu graveyard, SP Nagar –Malkajgiri are completed with an estimated cost of Rs 8 Cr."
In the second phase, four graveyards are to be developed in Lalapet, Mettuguda and Monda Market.
Rs 72 lakh is sanctioned for the development works at 0.98 acres Sainagar Hindu ShamshanGhat, Lalapet, Rs 42 lakh for 0.98 acres Aryan Graveyard, Mettuguda, Rs 49 lakh for 2.46 acres Christian Graveyard, Mettuguda and Rs 1 34.50 lakh for Hindu Graveyard , Monda Market.
The graveyards were equipped with a compound wall, burning platforms, ash storage facilities, prayer hall, waiting area, sitting gallery, pathways, wash areas, electrification and plantation. The works started in December 2019 and it would take more six months to complete. Plan to construct lawns, cremation platforms, ash storage, prayer hall, waiting area and sitting room are part of the development plans."
