Hyderabad: The Ranga Reddy district received 1144.0 mm rainfall against the normal 640.3 mm i.e 78.7 per cent excess rainfall during 2020-21 up to December 2020. This helped farmers rely mainly on supplement water being supplied to them for irrigation.

"The deepest point of groundwater level is recorded in May or early June every year when mercury level reaches peak. However, due to good monsoons, this year, the groundwater retention is quite satisfactory in Ranga Reddy district. Besides this, several other factors including mandatory rainwater harvesting systems (RWHs), Mission Bhagiratha project etc, aid in retaining groundwater level which in turn helped the farming community rely mainly on supplement water being supplied to them for irrigation instead of sinking or pumping water from the ground," said K Jagannadha Rao, the in-charge District Ground Water Officer.

Among them, Kuntloor village in Abdullapurmet mandal close to Hayathnagar saw the groundwater table rise to 1.07 meters MBGWL, while Shadnagar village of Farooqnagar mandal stands least in the list with a distorted figure of 16.77 MBGWL.

As per mandal-wise statistics, four out of 27 mandals in the district, such as Hayathnagar, Abdullapurmet, Kandukur and Manchal, are leading the list with least depletion level of groundwater. While 1.07 MBGWL was recorded in Hayathnagar in December as against the 13.08 MBGWL recorded in December last year, 1.28 MBGWL was recorded this year in Abdullahpurmet which was around 7.72 MBGWL last year.
