Huge plantation drive at Mrugavani National Park
Chilkur: Phoenix Group celebrates its founder's day every year on August 18 every day. As part of the celebrations, Phoenix Foundation initiated a huge plantation drive at Mrugavani National Park here with the aim of planting around 10,000 saplings in 130 hectares of forest area.
SK Joshi, Chief Secretary, Telangana, Malla Reddy, Minister of Labour, Employment, Women and Child Development, G Ranjith Reddy, MP, Yadaiah, MLA, Narasimha Reddy, Vice Chairman & Managing Director of TSIIC, R. Shoba, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Sidhanand Kukrety, Asst. Chief Conservator of Forests, and D Bheema, Deputy Forest Officer, Suresh Chukkapalli, Chairman Emeritus of Phoenix Group, along with the employees of Phoenix Group, actively participated and planted the saplings.
The saplings will be nurtured and maintained by Phoenix Group. Saplings to be planted have been chosen from various species of native plants. Other initiative under Phoenix Foundation is to translocate over 900 banyan trees on Hyderabad- Bijapur National highway and the trees are said to be between 80 and 90 years old. Phoenix Foundation has also adopted the Medikunta Lake near Wipro junction at Financial district and have undertaken cleaning and maintenance of the water body.
Suresh Chukkapalli, Chairman Emeritus of Phoenix Group, said, "We are not just emphasising on planting trees but to nurture and grow them. Forests not only provide environmental benefits, but also offer significant income and livelihood options for more than one billion forest-dependent people around the globe. Trees provide a wide range of products and valuable services, including sequestering carbon, providing shade, controlling erosion, beautifying landscapes and increasing the fertility of soils".
