5 yrs on, locals await new community hall in Goshamahal Division

Bringing to the fore a clear case of sheer negligence and irresponsibility on the part of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the authorities demolished Jagjeevan Ram Community Hall located in Goshamahal division promising to construct a new one, but it has been five years no initiative has been taken in this regard.

Besides this, the Goshamahal division is plagued with common civic issues like drainage overflow, damaged roads and delay in taking up road widening works, etc. The area is spread across 2.5 square kilometre consisting of prominent areas like Gandhi Statue, Bhoiguda Kaman, Hindi Nagar, Chaknawadi, and Jumerat Bazar.

According to the locals, the small Jagjeevan Ram Community Hall near Jumerat Bazar proved to be a great boon for the poor locals as it facilitated holding events including marriages, get-togethers and other functions. Vikas Singh, a resident in the area, says that during 2015-16 the authorities on the pretext of constructing a modern function hall demolished the existing one. The city Mayor, Bonthu Rammohan too had visited and took the residents into confidence of promising a new modern community hall.

However, after demolishing the hall, the authorities didn't turn back to check and put the redevelopment project on the backburner, alleged locals. The place is now being used to feed the horses by private persons. "The authorities have deprived the poor families of a facility which could have saved huge monies for holding functions," said Vikas Singh, demanding that the government look into the issue.

The residents in Imliya Bagh, an area adjacent to the Jumerat Bazar, are demanding that the government provide double bedroom houses as their existing ones are in a dilapidated state.

Most of the residents failed to get the flood relief of Rs 10,000 and are agitated over this. The drain water overflows onto the road from Puranapul to Balram Gali for the past several years but no solution has been provided by the authorities, said Suresh Kumar.

The residents are a worried lot on the road widening works to be taken up in the area from Bhoiguda Kaman to Gandhi Statue. The authorities had first intimated that it would be a 100 feet road, later they said 60 feet. The residents are in fear as to how much of their houses would be demolished as part of road widening. The locals want the government to give clarity on what extent the road would be widened.
