Aadhaar linkage must to avail of free 20,000 litres scheme

Hyderabad: The State government has mandated Aadhaar linkage to avail of free water supply of 20,000 litres per month from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) in the Greater Hyderabad limits.

As promised in the election manifesto in the recently held GHMC elections, the government launched the free water supply scheme from January this year.

Municipal Administration and Urban Development Secretary Arvind Kumar issued fresh guidelines for the water supply scheme under which all the customers should link their Aadhaar to the Customer Account Number (CAN). The linkage can be taken up either through Mee- Seva centres or through HMWSSB website's window to enrol Aadhaar linkage.

The customers are given an opportunity to fix meters by March 31 through empanelled Meter agencies to claim the scheme benefit. All the domestic slum consumers are exempted from fixing the individual water meters. The slum consumption of water would be assessed through slum docket water meters.

The other domestic consumers in individual residences and apartments were asked to fix the meters to avail free water supply scheme. Supply above 20,000 litres would be charged as per the applicable tariff with effect from December 2020, the order said.
