Hyderabad: Basti Dawakhana gets doctor after 6 months
Karwan: Residents of Karwan heaved a sigh of relief after the 'Basti Dawakhana' at Taleem Amlapur got a doctor after six months. Till now the patients were being treated by the head nurse.
According to the patients visiting the health care centre, the doctor was appointed on Wednesday. "The Basti Dawakhana was run by a single nurse, who managed almost everything---from consulting patients to prescribing medication. Several patients are being consulted by her, especially the general category. Those with chronic ailments were sent back," said Chand Pasha, a patient.
Around 80 patients visit the centre daily for consultation, but were going back owing to non-availability of doctor. "Earlier, they were not satisfied with consulting a nurse and were facing difficulties and were forced to visit private clinics. As now a doctor is appointed, hopefully patients will come to know of it," remarked Osman Ali Hajri, a local activist of Karwan.
The Basti Dawakhana was opened in 2020. Since lifting of the lockdown, it was running without a doctor. After several complaints to the in-charge of health care centre, Dr Srikanth, and a week of agitation by residents, finally a doctor has been appointed," he pointed out. In this pandemic time, the health centres are running without doctors. The government must take note and appoint them at the earliest, he added.
