Hyderabad: BJP demands formation of new governing body for GHMC
Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party OBC Morcha national president Dr K Laxman warned Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his government against any "mischief in letting down the verdict of people in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections."
Addressing the media here on Thursday, he demanded the State government to immediately take steps for the formation of the new council with the elected corporators. He expressed strong exception to running the GHMC with the outgoing corporators keeping the newly-elected in waiting for two more months. He asked why the State government had gone for early elections when there was ample time till February 2021? He said the State Election Commission (SEC) should not act as a faithful servant to the State government, instead it should take steps for the formation of the new GHMC council.
Stating that the GHMC was in neck-deep debts and not in a position to pay even salaries to the sanitation staff, the BJP leader said that the State was witnessing anti-incumbency wave and expressed doubt whether the pink party would survive through 2023 Assembly elections.
He asked the employees and teachers to question the government and added that his party would fight with the State government until it addresses the issues concerning the employees, teachers and other sections of the society.
