Hyderabad City soaked to the bone
Hyderabad: It rained cats and dogs in the city in the last two days – an unusual phenomenon in the month of September. The twin cities have of late witnessed heavy showers. While a drizzle plunges many parts of city into chaos, the downpour on Tuesday made citizens scurry for cover and traffic snarls were dime a dozen across the city.
- Heavy downpour on Tuesday night inundates several areas in city
- It rained woes and denizens caught unawares by sudden, long showers
- A double whammy as city already struggling to contain spread of seasonal ailments
Office-goers returning home were caught off-guard on Tuesday night and even on Wednesday morning as several areas witnessed rainfall. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) already under pressure to keep city clean amid outbreak of seasonal ills was stretched to limits to address water logging and inundation issues several low-lying areas and on pothole-ridden roads.
In some areas, water entered houses. In Malkajgiri, water was drained with the help of pumpsets. In most areas of the state capital on Tuesday, huge traffic jams were reported from across the twin cities. Hapless people were stuck under shelters for hours as there was no possibility to move.
Water got stagnant in many areas and trees in many areas fell down. Due to inundation of potholes, commuters faced a lot of hardships negotiating their way through the heavy traffic, while avoiding pitfalls. GHMC sanitation workers swung into operations and were seen clearing obstacles and paving way for rainwater to drain from the roads.
