To prevent the students from taking part in the protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the administration of the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) on Sunday locked all the three campus gates from outside around 3 pm.

Following an alert by the police that the students were planning to join the protest at Mozamjahi Market and may aggravate the situation, the university locked the gates. Meanwhile, the students who reached the campus raised slogans against the administration and the police.

However, some of the students climbed over the gates in a show of protest. The university gates were opened after two hours.

"Locking up inside the campus was not acceptable. If they lock up us today, there also chances of holding us as hostages in the campus in future," said Harshal Deshpande, vice-president of the student union of EFLU.

"The authorities locked them up after receiving information from the police that the right-wing student group is planning to attack us. However, instead of preventing them from joining the protest, the police would have taken the right-wing group into custody," said the students.
