Update: 2020-02-20 00:38 IST

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is phasing out old trucks. Out of 734 trucks, there are 210 old vehicles that have completed 15 to 18 years of service. Of which 102, have been discontinued and will be auctioned soon.

"The older fleet which is no longer functional will be auctioned for scraps and the ones which are in good condition will be repaired and will be kept as reserved vehicle," adds Viswajit Kampati, Additional Commissioner, GHMC.

There were a lot of instances where the trucks met with accidents in the past and efforts for repairing were made to make the vehicles functioning, but in vain in most cases. According to the official, the vehicles didn't go through fitness test every year and had broken down on road several times hence they are been replaced with new ones.
