Mecca Masjid opens to devotees

Charminar: After the completion of the restoration works of the main door of historic Mecca Masjid, the doors were opened for mussalies and visitors.

On Friday, after the inspection of MLAs Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri (Yakutpura) and Mumtaz Ahmed Khan (Charminar), the main door was opened to the public. They will remain open daily from Fajr (Dawn) to Isha (night) prayers. MLAs offered Jumma prayer and later conducted an inspection of ongoing works in the mosque. After elaborate discussions with Mecca Masjid authorities, they opened the main door for visitors.

Speaking to media persons, Pasha Quadri said that the doors were opened under strict covid norms. Given the pandemic and to avoid huge gatherings, the entry is restricted by the mosque's security. He said the restoration works of the door were completed around 3 months back and it was closed due to the pandemic situation. "Since everything seems to be returning to normalcy the door is now open for mussalies and general public," he added.

Later, they also inspected the ongoing works of ablution Houz. Mumtaz Khan said the works of ablution tank were delayed due to the poor quality work of the old contractor. "A new contractor has been engaged for the works, which are going on in a smooth manner. Around 80 per cent of works are now completed and only the works of installing tiles are going on and the contractor is instructed to complete the works at the earliest." He said, "Presently, there are temporary toilets in mosques with sewage connection, and the construction of modern toilets is going on. As soon as the works are completed the toilets will be opened."

Pathergatti division corporator Syed Sohail Quadri, Mecca Masjid Superintendent, MA Qadeer Siddiqui and other officials were present.
