Hyderabad: More Congressmen to switch over to AIMIM?

Update: 2020-11-22 23:49 IST

Hyderabad: With Syeda Falak, an international Karate champion whose family is traditionally known for its attachment with Congress, joining AIMIM ahead of GHMC polls, besides at least two former Corporators, it is believed that there are more shocks in store for the Congress party.

The development comes after already two Congress leaders from Old city shifted loyalties to the MIM party. Speculation is rife that more from the grand old national party would jump the bandwagon in the coming days.

Earlier, eyebrows were raised and heated social media debates were on after former Corporator Mohammed Ghouse joined AIMIM. To further embarrass the grand old party, another ex-Corporator Khaja Bilal Ahmed also joined the party within days. Both were considered to be vociferous critics of the AIMIM during the period when they served the Congress. Their rejoining AIMIM also brought to the fore questions if their presence in the Congress was to weaken it or if they were moles.

Syed Falak also known as the Golden Girl of Hyderabad, accompanied by her father Syed Shah Majaz Ul Haq, on Sunday met the AIMIM leaders including, party floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, Yakutpura MLA and party general secretary Ahmed Pasha Quadri.

Speaking to The Hans India, she said that she would be campaigning for the party in the areas where the party candidates are contesting. "I shall be supporting the party in the GHMC elections and shall also campaign," she said.

Meanwhile, Owaisi brothers went into overdrive during the campaign. On Sunday, Akbaruddin along with candidates Fahad Bin Samad Bin Abdat (Uppuguda), Abdul Wahab (Chandrayangutta), Azam Shareef (Lalita Bagh), Mirza Saleem Baig (Riyasat Nagar), Reshma Fatima (Kanchanbagh), Abdul Rahman Shah (Jangammet), Barkas (Shabana Begum) conducted door-to-door campaign.

Later, at a public meeting held in Chandrayangutta. Akbar asserted "After Bihar's performance, it is now clear to everyone that AIMIM is a force to reckon with as a national party. We now have 2 MPs, one in Hyderabad and one from Aurangabad, 7 MLAs in Hyderabad, 2 in Maharashtra, 5 in Bihar."

He recalled the contribution of party during Coronavirus lockdown, where thousands of people were benefited and even during floods party contributed several kits. On the other hand, the elder Owaisi is leaving no stone unturned and focusing on other parts of the city, after TRS made it clear that there was no alliance. On Sunday, he was seen canvassing for Shaheen Begum, wife of Mohammed Shareef of Erragadda division, in Jubilee Hills constituency.

During campaign, Asaduddin interacted with locals and explained the development activities in the division. "The corporators who have worked for the people in previous term will also work in this term. This time the party's candidates will be winning with a high majority," he added. He said, "There is no alliance with TRS party. Even now this Erragada division has the TRS corporator and our party will be fighting against the TRS," he affirmed.
