PD Act invoked against two rape accused

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police on Sunday invoked Preventive Detention (PD) Act against two gang rape accused persons. The accused were identified as A Ramesh and Pavan.

As part of an ongoing drive against persons who commit crimes against women and to create a sense of safety and security among women, Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat invoked the PD Act against the two persons due to which they will have to undergo further rigorous imprisonment.

The case is of August 25, when a 17-year-old got lost on her way to her grandmother's house. When she was waiting in front of the Nawab pan shop behind Broad Land Hotel in LB Nagar, the accused Ramesh and Pawan forced her into their auto-rickshaw and took her to an isolated place at Amma Nagar in Hayath Nagar.

In the meantime, another person, Ramavath Santhosh, joined them and the three raped the girl. Later, they abandoned her at Vijayapuri Colony in Kothapet. While investigating the matter, the CCTV footage, tower dump analysis, and GPS locations helped the police identify the accused.

Acting on a tip-off, the LB Nagar police arrested the three men on August 31 and seized two auto-rickshaws used to kidnap the victim and three cell phones. They were then remanded to judicial custody. Later, it was known that Ramesh and Pawan have a criminal history and were involved in several property offences.
