Hyderabad: RWA's hailed for 'no' to New Year parties

Hyderabad: Many youth, who are mindful of the coronavirus threat and possibility of new mutant variants, are giving thumps-up to the initiative of RWAs (resident welfare associations) to curb all sorts of celebrations which involve gatherings in gated communities.

There is positive response not only from elderly but also from youth to the appeals of RWAs. "I think that everybody can understand that the new strain of covid is much deadlier. As we do not want 2021 to be the same year we would like to remain inside the houses, rather engaged in reverly" said Sri Harshitha, LLB student, Osmania University.

"This year would not be like every year, where I used to party with my friends on December 31 and on the New Year day. Also I welcome the RWAs decision", said S Abhinav, 24, an IT Employee.

"As per the health researchers, the new strain of novel coronavisrus would be more life threatening. Also last night parties and loud sound can cause problems to the senior citizen and also covid patients. Hence we whole heartedly welcome the decision of RWAs", said P Anushka, a B Sc student, ST Mary's College.

It may be mentioned here that the UFERWAS (United Federation of Residents Welfare Associations) has urged the RWAs to avoid gatherings and maintain social distancing measures in view of new Covid strain.

Speaking to The Hans India, Dr Rao VBJ Chelikani, the President of UFERWAS, said as per the health researchers, the new strain of novel coronavisrus would be more life threatening. "We are also spreading the message that the people remain optimistic about the treatment as Covid vaccine would be administered in the coming months. Hopefully the next year we can peacefully celebrate all the festivals," he said.

Syed Khaled Shah, Joint Secretary, Standing Committee of Tarnaka Residents Welfare Associations, said that as the mutated and more aggressive strain of the novel coronavirus is spreading and with some confirmed cases in Telangana, they do not want the new year to be celebrated in fear. "So, we appealed to the residents not to indulge in parties outside," he added.
