Hyderabad: Telangana State Home Minister Mahmood Ali remembering Savitribai Phule on her birth anniversary said Savitribai Phule is considered to be the first woman teacher in India. He thanked Phule Foundation, Valmiki Foundation and Sri Tyagaraya Ganasabha for inviting him for celebrations.

He also mentioned that, Savitribai Phule along with her husband Jyotirao Phule played an important and crucial role in promoting women's rights in India. She is considered the mother of Indian feminism. Phule and her husband established the first Indian girls' school in Pune in 1848 at Bhide Vada. Savitribai's birthday, January 3, is celebrated as a girls 'day in Maharashtra, especially in girls' schools.

Relating the present Telangana governance for women now, he pointed out that, TS implemented women welfare schemes like Kalyana Lakshmi and Shadi Mubarak schemes and the government is giving Rs 1,00,116 to brides under the schemes.

The police department has set up a "she team" for the safety of women in the state. He concludes that, The Telangana government is giving pensions, widow's pensions and support pensions to eligible women and single women.
