Hyderabad: Scoffs of disbelief at Rs 137-cr devp claim at Hasthinapuram Division
Hasthinapuram, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation ward no 16, a suburb in Hyderabad, was established in the last municipal elections. The locals supported the merging of Hasthinapuram into GHMC hoping that it would resolve all civic problems. But even after five years there is no respite for the residents from the perennial problems.
Now the voters are criticising the statement issued by the TRS leaders that the government had spent Rs 137 crore for development works including side drain, drainage, garbage, roads, water supply, etc, in the division. The locals point out to the hardships they were still facing due to the recent devastating floods that impacted the people's lives. Some of the colonies were still reeling under the stagnant water mixed with mud and muck.
The division consists of 89 colonies including 15 slum colonies with a total population of 44,800 voters. The perennial issues plaguing the division are outdated drainage systems, garbage problems and irregular water supply. Sri Ramana colony, Mallikarjuna colony and slum colonies lack a proper drainage system due to which drain water overflows onto the roads.
In most of the colonies there are no CC roads giving nightmares to the commuters and pedestrians. Irregular garbage collection, non-maintenance of hygiene and sanitation are the other problems faced by the people living in Nagarjuna colony, Shirdi Sai Nagar, Gokul Enclave, Sriramana colony and Mallikarjuna colony.
While the entire administration was brought to the knees and the people suffered a lot in the recent floods last month, the TRS leaders and activists have been claiming that the State has spent Rs 137 crore for the construction of drainage, roads and trunk line, but the voters of the division are not falling for the false TRS propaganda.
The voters allege that no development activities were taken up in the division and questioned the government about the Rs 137 crore development claim.
