Hyderabad: Though there have been multiple instances wherein the traffic police were seen not accepting the low-quality helmets being used by motorists, in the first of its kind, the Cyberabad police went further and arrested the manufacturers of such helmets. The accused were identified as Dheeraj Kumar and Anil Kumar. Both are natives of Ghaziabad and were brought to the city on prisoner transit warrant on Monday.

According to police, Dheeraj Kumar was involved in the manufacture of O2 helmets through Aashirwad Helmets and Accessories and Anil Kumar was involved in the manufacture of Welfare, Hood and Duro helmets through Welfare Enterprises. A total of 10 FIRs have been filed against them.

SM Vijay Kumar, DCP (Traffic), Cyberabad, said, "Most of these manufacturing units of duplicate helmets have been found in and around the national capital region, Delhi, where they are made for Rs 100 to Rs 200 and sold at Rs 500. These helmets bear no mark in many instances or they bear a fake ISI mark. All such helmets are made with cheap plastic, fiber and thermocol materials and can't bear the weight/pressure of the rider in case of an accident."

"It is only a misconception among the public that some helmet is better than no helmet as these types of low-quality helmets provide no protection at all. We have warned multiple times that fines will be levied against any persons seen travelling with these helmets. However, the arrested accused were booked under section 420 of IPC and will be remanded to judicial custody," added the DCP.
