Hyderabad: 'Want to see all benefit from welfare schemes'

"Any government will regulate schemes to support the needy and to benefit citizens of the State, but, not everyone gets the benefit. I want to ensure that happens. That is my major focus in this term as a corporator," says Shaheen Begum.

"The Rs 10,000 aid for the recent flood victims is not given to every affected family and only half of them benefit. Such partiality and malpractice must be eradicated. Every eligible person must get pension, government aid. All kinds of financial support must reach the needy," she observed. Shaheen Begum, who has been re-elected corporator for the second time, says she will complete all pending works, such as community halls, roads and pipelines. She claims that works were pending due to fund crunch.

The, State government did not release funds during my last term. No corporator funds were given during the last five years. I was given only general funds. Speaking on her focus areas of health and education, she promises to establish a 'Basthi Dawakhana' in Sriramnagar; already two are established in Erragadda and Sultannagar. According to the corporator, Erragadda is to get a multipurpose function hall in Fatimanagar. Renovation of the community hall and Owaisi playground is also on cards. A swimming pool is on the list of proposals for Gauthampuri Colony. On the pending proposals, Shaheen Begum said Rs.4.5 crore plan for sewerage and drinking water is pending, The budget has not been released to attend to basic issues in the division. The government is not supportive enough, but at least the GHMC Standing Committee is able to handle the situation. Overall, the enthusiastic corporator is active and dare enough to do something for people of Erragadda.
