Hyderabad: Warm move amid a nip in the air
With the temperatures dipping in the city, many organisations and NGOs have begun the blanket distribution drives for the poor and the homeless. A city-based NGO 'Feed the Needy' has joined efforts to distribute blankets to needy and also engaged in providing livelihood opportunity to a flood hit shopkeeper at Lingampally.
Sai Teja, a volunteer of Feed The Needy, Kukatpally, said "As slowly winter is approaching with very low temperatures and fog, several homeless people have only a plastic sheet to protect themselves from cold. We have received various calls regarding requirement of blankets across Telangana.
So our NGO has planned to distribute blanket to help the poor in distress and within two days we would start the distribution campaign. Also, all the blankets would be purchased from a flood affected clothing shop Gopal Collection at Lingampally to provide him livelihood opportunity. As his shop was hit by a sudden rush of flood water, all the new stocks brought for the festive season got damaged."
In Hyderabad they are many NGOs distributing blankets, so we have planned to distribute blankets across the districts of Telangana. Initially, we will start the distribution with 500 blankets. In this mission, various like-minded people are helping us financially and interested people can contact us on 7995404040.
Apart from this, recently the NGO has distributed around 200 blankets to flood hit people across Hyderabad.
"I was worried as all my stock got damaged due to the recent rainfall. I closed my shop on October 13 and left for home.
Suddenly around 11-11:30 pm floodwater rushed into the shop and all the stocks which I got for festive season were drenched and damaged. Due to the current pandemic and lockdown I could not earn anything. This NGO has come forward to help and placed orders for around 200 blankets," said Krishna, Gopal Collection, Lingampally.
