Illegal cell towers in Hyderabad face action

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) wrote a letter to Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSPDCL) to cut power supply of the cell tower at a park at circle no 21 of Chandanagar which was erected illegally.

According to the GHMC act it is illegal to construct cell towers in parks, playgrounds and public open places.

The corporation also issued notice to the tower company to dismantle it in 3 days from the date of notice and failing which action will be taken to remove the encroachment under 405 of GHMC act 1955. According to the officials there was no reply from the company till date.

The town planning wing of GHMC also inspected towers that were illegally erected in the city and gave notices to them.

Since 2018 the civic body has given permission for 2,180 cell towers approximately and pay a fee of Rs one lakh to the corporation. Subsequently, the town planning wing will inspect the stability of the building and surroundings and then permit the company.
