Immersion ponds ready at Kapra, Cherlapally tanks
Kapra: Taking into account of the amount of pollutants idol immersion adds to lakes and tanks, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has built immersion ponds in Cherlapally and Kapra tanks, as the tanks have been dried up.
The idea of setting up immersion tanks is to pump water from adjoining water bodies and flush out the polluted water after 'Nimajjanam'(immersion) via sewage lines. Later, the tanks will be de-silted and reused for other festivals.
Deputy Commissioner Dasarath has been inspecting the tanks on a regular basis to make sure they would be ready by the time of immersion of idols. He said permission would be granted for idols less than 5-feet height for immersion.
"Police patrolling will be available round the clock all the Navaratri days to prevent untoward incidents. People organising ganesh pandals should take prior permission from the Electricity Department. Sound pollution is strictly prohibited," he added.
