In a first, GHMC imposes Rs 1 lakh fine on eatery
Madhapur: The GHMC officials who recently noticed a restaurant in Madhapur Ayyappa Society involved in catering services throwing wastes into nalas and not building a steel chamber, allowing sewerage to flow onto roads, dumping construction rubble on roads---on Wednesday imposed for the first time a fine of Rs.1 lakh on the establishment, as it was found to be causing health problems to local residents. Chandanagar Deputy Commissioner Yadagiri Rao levied the fine for violating the Swachhta programmes.
The GHMC had recently decided to deal firmly with and penalise those who impede the Swachhata programmes under its limits. It took up a special drive from May 25 and collected till date Rs.26 lakh as penalty from 1,600 from persons and establishments.
The GHMC officials have clarified that the fines are being imposed to deter individuals and establishments for impeding the Swachhata programmes and 'behaving irresponsibly,' and not to boost the revenue of civic body. The levies would continue until they show a change in their attitude, the officials stated.
