Income Tax dept briefs NGOs on changes in taxation
Khairatabad: The Commissioner of Income Tax (Exemptions), Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Odisha, organised an 'Outreach Programme on Taxation of Charitable Organisations' here on Tuesday. The Outreach Programme is aimed at creating awareness among charitable organisations about their duties, benefits and also recent changes in the provisions of the Income Tax Act, 1961 relating to the charitable institutions.
Pramod Kumar Gupta, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Exemptions), New Delhi, the chief guest on the occasion, expressed happiness over the overwhelming response from the NGOs, members of ICAI & Tax Bar Association and also interacted with members of Indian Chartered Accountants of India, Tax Bar Association and also representatives of various NGOs.
He explained the intent of legislature regarding the provisions relating to charitable institutions and organisations. He also appreciated the selfless service rendered by the various NGOs and assured all possible help from the department for genuine NGOs. But, he warned of stringent action against fraudulent NGOs.
The Commissioner of Income Tax (Exemptions), AP, Telangana & Odisha, Dipak P Ripote, explained the provisions of Income Tax Act relating to exempted institutions. On this occasion, representatives of various philanthropic and charitable institutions attended the programme and got to learn of the recent changes in taxation laws.
Dayaniwas Sharma, FCA, Member of the Central Council of ICAI, Satish K Reddy, chairman of Naandi Foundation and Dr Reddy's Labs Ltd, badminton player Pullella Gopichand, the founder of Gopichand Badminton Academy, Sangita Reddy, founder of SACHi & JMD of Apollo Hospitals, Dr M Gopichand, founder of Hrudaya Foundation & CEO of Star Hospitals, and Dipika Prasad of Lakeer Foundation graced the occasion and appreciated the efforts and support extended by the Income Tax Department.
On the occasion, Gupta honoured Chess Grand Master E Arjun and also some other representatives of selective NGOs. A painting competition was also organised as part of outreach programme. Officers and Staff of Bhubanewr, Vijayawada, Hyderabad tax exemption ranges also took part in the programme.
