Incomplete works turn commuting into ordeal

Kakatiya Nagar: The uneven road in Kakatiya Nagar is troubling commuters a lot to travel on it. The road has been dotted with potholes and gravel for the past 8 months. The mis-communication between contractor and officials is taking a toll on the condition of road.

The previous contractor left the works in the middle, and the process of retendering took time to start the works again. Though the works commenced in Sowbhagya Nagar Colony, it may take two to three months to finish them. Residents in the area are not in a position to step out on rainy days. They want officials to act earnestly and finish the work at the earliest.

"As these are low-lying areas. They require a large drainage system. Box drain system of 8x6 sizes will be helpful for water flow," says Mudraboyina Srinivas Rao. He further adds, "The work would have been completed if the contractor had finished it without abandoning them mid-way. The process of sending him notices and for retendering took considerable time. The total budget of the project is Rs 4 crore.

In the next two to three months, it would have been finished and there would have been no problems to the commuters." "The roads are in this position for the past one year. No officials are attending to the problem and complete the work. I have seen many people falling off their two-wheelers because of the potholes. It is much dangerous in the night as they are not visible," says Narasimha, the owner of Sai Kirana and General Stores.

"It will be very difficult while travelling with kids on this road. Government needs to respond quickly as there are many schools located in this area. We can't keep our legs down while riding vehicles because of water," says Madhavi, a regular commuter.
